A preschool day, recorded by teachers — and followed live by parents.

Tots & Teddies runs an award-winning bilingual infant care and preschool in Singapore's CBD. We built two apps around it: one for teachers to log check-ins, temperatures, feeds and naps as they happen, and one for parents to follow the same day in real time.

The Context

Building a childcare app that shows parents the day their child is actually having.

Tots & Teddies is a bilingual full-day infant care and preschool in Singapore's CBD, run by Quality Centres. Parents drop off in the morning and, until now, learned how the day went at pick-up — what was eaten, how long the nap was, whether a temperature had been taken — from whatever a teacher remembered to say at the door.

The brief was two apps on one set of records. Teachers needed a fast way to log check-ins, temperatures, heights, weights and infant care through the day; parents needed to see those same records live, along with messages, events, the food menu and school information. Both apps went live on Google Play in November 2023.

The Challenge

Parents had no view of the day, and teachers logged care by hand.

In infant care, the details are the job: when a baby last fed, how long they slept, how many diaper changes, what their temperature read at drop-off. Those records were kept by hand, which meant they were written once, read rarely, and reached parents as a summary at the end of the day if they reached them at all.

A parent app on its own does not fix that. If logging is slower than paper, teachers stop doing it mid-shift, and the parent sees an empty timeline — which is worse than no app. The teacher side had to be quick enough to use with a child in the room, and the parent side had to show exactly what was logged, when it was logged.

Our Approach

Log it once in the classroom. Show it live at home.

Every decision followed one rule: a record a teacher enters is the record a parent sees, with nothing in between to retype, summarise or forget.

Two apps, one set of records.

Teachers and parents get separate apps built for their own job, reading and writing the same child records. A feed logged in the classroom is the feed a parent sees on their phone.

Check-in and check-out as the spine of the day.

Attendance anchors everything else — QR check-in at drop-off, check-out at pick-up, and the class view showing at a glance who is in, with clear check-in and check-out indicators.

Infant care logged as it happens.

Feeding, sleep and bathroom breaks are recorded through the day rather than reconstructed at the end of it, with quick comment suggestions so a note takes a tap instead of a paragraph.

Health tracked over time, not just today.

Daily temperatures sit alongside monthly heights and weights, charted across the year so a parent sees a trend rather than a single reading.

The rest of school life in the same app.

Messaging with teachers, events, the photo gallery and learning portfolio, the food menu, allergies and medication, school information and billing — so parents open one app instead of checking five channels.

Children's data handled as children's data.

Role-based access separates what a teacher and a parent can see, data is encrypted in transit, and families can request deletion — declared on both Google Play listings.

What This Means in Practice

What this means in practice.

01

Parents follow their child's day as it happens — check-in, meals, naps, bathroom breaks and temperature — instead of hearing a summary at pick-up.

02

Teachers record classroom care in one app, at the moment it happens, instead of on paper that has to be transcribed or summarised later.

03

A record entered by a teacher is the same record a parent reads, so there is no second version of the day to drift out of step.

04

Monthly heights and weights are charted across the year, giving parents a growth trend rather than isolated measurements.

05

Messages, events, the food menu, photos and school information live in the parents app, so communication no longer depends on notes, chats and noticeboards.

06

Both apps clear Google Play's data-safety review with encryption in transit and deletion on request — the baseline for software that holds children's health data.

Built for Every Platform

Two apps, one preschool.

The teacher app writes the records and the parents app reads them — the same child's day, seen from both sides.

Preschool & Childcare App Development — Questions Owners Ask Us

Usually not. Teachers need speed — logging a feed or a temperature with a child in the room — while parents need a clear view of one child's day. Tots & Teddies has a separate app for each, built on the same records, so a teacher's entry is exactly what the parent sees without anyone retyping it.

On Tots & Teddies: check-in and check-out, daily temperatures, monthly heights and weights, and infant care — feeding, sleep and bathroom breaks — plus messaging, events, a photo gallery and learning portfolio, the food menu, allergies and medication, school information and billing.

By making logging faster than paper. The teacher app is built around the class view and quick entries, with comment suggestions so a daily note is a tap rather than a paragraph. If the teacher side is slow, the parent side shows an empty day — so the teacher app gets designed first.

It has to be designed that way from the start. Tots & Teddies separates what teachers and parents can see by role, encrypts data in transit, and lets families request deletion — all declared on both Google Play listings. Health records about children are exactly the data that store reviewers and parents look at most closely.

It depends on how many apps and roles you need and how much of school life goes into them. A two-app build like Tots & Teddies — teacher logging, parent visibility, messaging and school information — is scoped in phases and quoted fixed-price after a free scoping call.
