Klinikum is a bilingual digital bookstore serving Kuwait — eBooks, audiobooks, and physical books in one platform. Every digital title is DRM-protected with screenshot blocking, single-device session enforcement, and reading progress sync. Digital books in the Gulf had no protection.
Publishers and content owners in Kuwait needed a platform that could sell digital books without losing control of the content. Screenshots, screen recordings, and account sharing were killing the economics of digital publishing.
At the same time, the platform needed to serve Arabic and English readers — with full RTL layouts, a bilingual catalog, and a checkout flow that worked with Gulf payment rails. No off-the-shelf solution handled both DRM and Gulf commerce together.
DRM first, commerce second.
We scoped the DRM layer before anything else — because getting content protection wrong would undermine the entire business model. Then we built the commerce and catalog systems around it:
Single-device session enforcement.
Each active session is tied to one device. Opening the app on a second device terminates the first session — no shared accounts.
Screenshot and screen-recording blocking.
Native OS-level protection prevents screenshots and screen captures on both iOS and Android.
Reading progress sync.
Progress, bookmarks, and highlights sync across a user's authorized device — so switching phones doesn't mean losing your place.
Multi-market catalog.
A country and market selector lets the platform surface different catalogs, pricing, and availability by region from one backend.
Weekly demos kept the client reviewing DRM behavior and catalog flows as they were built — not after.
